Sudbury Valley Natural Health was established to try to
take the mystery (and perceived misery!) out of healthy eating.
Healthy food can taste good and be prepared in a reasonable amount of
time.
The connection between food and health is
well-established. Yet understanding which foods promote health or
hinder it often seems less clear. Scientific recommendations seem
to change study by study. Fad diets come and go. So what's
one to do?
I advocate an approach to eating and lifestyle (let's
not use the word "diet" - think of what the first 3 letters of that word
spells out!) that is sustainable for the long-run, delicious and easy to
follow. As a cardiac nurse I saw first-hand that the people who
established a way of eating that they could follow consistently over
time had the greatest success. One can only live on diet
shakes or salads for so long. It's important to enjoy what you eat
and feel satisfied after a meal.
So I recommend eating foods that your body was designed
to eat. Choose foods that not-so-long ago (my grandmother
remembers!) formed the basis of daily eating - in a time where
degenerative disease and obesity were relatively rate. And, of
course, exercise moderately. Most important, let common sense be
your guide. Easier said than done? Click here to learn
